 Pashupatinath Temple: 

Pashupatinath temple is temple of Hindu God Lord Siva. The Pashupatinath temple is an important place of historical, religious and tourist sighting. It’s situated on the bank of Bagmati river. It lies in Kathmandu Metropolitan city  ward no-8 in Kathmandu district. The temple of Pashupatinath spread over about 240 hectares of land. Pashupatinath is one of the fourth most important religious sites in Asia for devotees of Shiva. Built in the 5th century and later renovated by Malla king.  When a Shiva lingam was discovered here. The site itself is said to have existed from the beginning of the millennium. In 1976, UNESCO listed the temple of Pashupatinath in the world Heritage site.

 Bagmati river in this holy place will be celebrated with the honor of the birth and also dead. Pashupatinath temple has been made in Nepalese Pagoda style. There are hundreds of Pagoda style. The characteristics here are found in the beautiful dried Woods. There are four main doors in the temple made from silver. The golden gajur in the temple carries the symbol of religious belief here. It also has a large bull named Nandi made up of kashya metal which is 6 feet tall, wide, large too and vehicles of Shiva.   There are hundreds of Shiva lingams within the compound. The big maha shivaratri festival in spring attracts  thousands of devotees from within Nepal and  India

Further east ahead the Bagmati reaches Pashupati. There is the temple of Guheshwori dedicated to Shiva consort sati devi. The temple are also includes Deupatan Jaya Bageshwori, Gaurighat, Kutu minahal, Gaushala, Pingalasthan and Sleshmantak forest. There are around 492 temples. 15 shiva lyas and 12 jyotirlinga to explore. It is also a cremation site. where the last rites of cremation is not for the faint hearted. Daily rituals at Pashupatinath temple: 

Pashupatinath is also one of the few living cultural heritage sites in the world like other cultural sites.  Pashupatinath is the centre of energy. with active participation of the people at all times of the everyday. The daily rituals of Pashupatinath temple are as follows: 

  • 4:00 am = West gate opens for visitors. 
  • 8:30 am = After arrival of pujagris, the ideal of the lord are bathed and cleaned clothes and jewelry are changed for the day. 
  • 9:30 am = Baal bhog or breakfast is offered to the lord. 
  • 10:00 am = Then people who want to do puja are welcomed to do so. It is also called farmayaishi puja, where by people tell the pujari to carry out a special puja for specific reasons. The puja continues till 1:45 pm in the afternoon. 
  • 1:50 pm = Lunch is offered to the lord in the main pashupati temple. 
  • 2:00 pm = Morning prayers end.  
  • 5:15 pm = The evening Aarti at the main pashupati temple begins. 
  • 6:00 pm = In recent times the Bagmati Ganga Aarati that is done at the banks of the bagmati. It has been gaining popularity. There are larger crowds attending on Saturdays, Monday and on special occasions. At present, you we can see many people during  ganga aarti. At that time  they sing shiva tandav bhajan written by ranav. This  is carried out during the evening ganga aarti 
  • 7:00 pm: Doors close
